Disney came out with a superhero movie in 2005 that swept the box office (okay maybe not but it did in my mind) and lost its run before making all of the movies it was supposed to. But that didn't stop it from becoming my favorite movie! #favoritemovie #DCOM #hero #sidekick #commander #jetstream #thestrongholdthree
Come On...You ALL knew this was coming sooner or later. I couldn't wait.
There is not a lot of bad I can say about this movie. Everyone who knows me knows that I can quote it to the point of annoyance. The amazing writing is not all I can brag on either. The casting is phenomenal, the storyline is epic, and the characters are timeless. If you don't know what this movie is about, let me tell you: "in a world full of superheroes, there are two that stand above the rest: The Commander (Kurt Russell) and Jetstream (Kelly Preston). Me, I have my own names for them: mom and dad." The movie opens with this quote from the son and main protagonist, Will Stronghold portrayed by Michael Angarano, which I think explains the entire plot of the movie right off the bat. He comes from a world where superheroes exist and is the bloodline of the worlds greatest and yet, there are no powers in sight for him. Devastated, it's time for him to start high school. Where does he go? None other than his parents alma mater, Sky High. He attends with his best friend Layla, played by Danielle Panabaker whom he's known since first grade and his long lost friend Zack (Nicholas Braun). They meet many other supers on the way to school who all become united by the end of the movie. AND the principal is the original Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter. What's better than that? Nothing if you ask me. Now, I won't give away all of their secrets, you'll just have to watch the movie to find out the rest of what happens.
Why do I love it?
I call this movie my comfort movie. I can watch it at any time, anywhere, any place and still love it as if I'm watching it for the first time in 2005. One time, in I believe 2009, my friend was over at my house and every time we turned on the TV, to Disney Channel, this movie was on. It was when I knew that this movie had a special place in my heart and meant something to me. I watched it probably three or more times that weekend alone. Ever since, it has been the thing I turn to in crisis, hurt, anger, sadness, and/or happiness. It has gotten me through anxiety attacks and breakups as well as bring a sense of peace coming home for holidays and on mom/daughter movie nights. I think I love this movie because of the comfort level it brings me, being able to quote the entire thing dissipates the unknown leaving me happy as a clam afterwards.
